Science Laboratories

BIOL 415 Immunology LabEducation in the sciences at CBU entails not only studying for classes but also working in the labs.  Most of our science courses have labs attached so that students can see for themselves what is going on and they get experience with up to date instrumentation.  It is also one of the most enjoyable parts of science.

At CBU, the labs are usually run by the professors who teach the lecture.  This allows the students to really get to know the professors, and it allows the professors to more fully integrate the lab and lecture for the students' benefit.  The interaction of the student with the professors in lab also helps the student get quality letters of reference from the faculty when it comes time to applying for further study, whether to a health professional school like medical school or to a graduate research program.

The image on the right shows the BIOL 415 Immunology Lab in action.

In Biology, 20 of the 25 lecture classes have labs attached.

In Chemsitry, 12 of 17 lecture classes have labs attached.

In Physics, 6 of the 12 lecture classes have labs attached and we also have an Advanced Lab course.

Organic Chemistry LabThe labs are housed in the new Cooper-Wilson Center for the Life Sciences building (completed in 2008) and in the completely renovated (2008) Assisi Hall.  These labs are near the faculty offices which are also located in these two buildings so that students have greater access to these lab facilities.

In particular, our Organic Chemistry lab has 18 hoods so that each student has his or her own hood to perform the experiments in.  See the image on the left.  This is a major advantage we have here at CBU.
