Science continues to evolve and expand. As it does, some major areas of interest turn out to be multi-disciplinary in nature. The fields of biochemistry, bioinformatics, environmental science, forensic science, nanotechnology, neuroscience, public health, scientific sales, scientific writing and wildlife biologist/game warden are good examples. All of these multi-disciplinary areas have room for many different levels of education. The levels in the field go from a lab technician with an associate degree all the way up to a specialization in medical or graduate school. Please understand that most experts in the multi-disciplinary fields did not earn undergraduate degrees in these areas, but rather earned them in one of the traditional science areas and then specialized in graduate or professional school. This is still the path most often recommended by the present experts. At CBU we offer the traditional science baccalaureate degrees and preparation for advanced degrees in both the traditional and the multi-disciplinary fields.
At CBU we prepare students in the traditional disciplines of
biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics
and
physics. Our degree programs have the required depth to give a solid foundation to prepare students for graduate and professional schools. We also have a good variety of courses for electives in the majors that allow students to pursue their particular interests and better prepare for particular fields of specialization. Most of our courses have lab components that provide excellent support for the lecture and provide valuable experience with relevant instrumentation. In addition, we have a degree in
Natural Science
that can be used to “design your own degree” within certain parameters.
We have information about various multi-disciplinary fields, and we have suggestions for majors and for electives within the majors in these areas. Choose your area of interest, and follow the links.
Biochemistry (we offer a degree in this field)
Bioinformatics
Environmental Science
(a paradigm for a biology degree with a concentration in environmental studies)
Forensics (we offer concentrations in forensics with several of our science degrees)
Law and Science
(for those interested in Law School with a background in science)
Neuroscience
Public Health
Scientific Sales
(for those interested in scientific, medical, or pharmaceutical sales)
Scientific Writing
(a degree in Natural Science with a certificate in Professional Writing)
Wildlife Biologist / Game Warden
