Teaching License in One of the Sciences

Science classroom CW 105As stated in its mission, CBU is a Catholic institution of higher education in the tradition of the Christian Brothers. The Brothers of the Christian Schools is an order devoted to teaching, and it is in that spirit of service in education that CBU offers an opportunity for students to become teachers themselves. At CBU, we offer three different ways to prepare you for being a science teacher.

The image on the right shows Dr. Thompson-Jaeger teaching a section of BIOL 111 Principles of Biology in the new CW 105 classroom.

The first way to gain teacher licensure is to obtain a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, physics or math, and then after graduation obtain an MAT degree (Masters of Arts in Teaching). Both degrees can be obtained at CBU.

A second way is to get a degree in Natural Science with a minor in your field of licensure followed by the MAT degree. We have paradigms are for: biology, chemistry, math, or physics. For dual licensure: biology and chemistry or in physics and math.

For more information about the MAT degree, please check with CBU's Education Department.
